JAPAN: Showa, 1926-1989, AR medal, ND (ca 1930's), Zeno-191303, character goku which in this context probably indicates the 27th Division (Imperial Japanese Army), the call-sign of which was the 'Field Division' (goku-dan), or just (goku) within center of pink flower on green backround, all enameled // hokushi goku haken kinen (In Commemoration of the ('Goku' troops) dispatch to Northern China), jungin (pure silver) at 6:30, EF. The 27th Division (Dai-nijunana Shidan) was an infantry division in the Imperial Japanese Army. Its call-sign was the Field Division (Goku-dan). It was formed in China as a triangular division from the independent mixed brigade and other units 21 June 1938. On 4 July 1938 the 27th Division was assigned to the 11th Army. From 25 July 1938, the division had started to participate in the Battle of Wuhan. After the end of battle in October 1938, the 27th Division was sent to the staging grounds in Tianjin, where it was subordinated directly to the China Expeditionary Army in September 1939.
