ABBASID: AE fals (4.36g), Ma'din Bûshanj, AH178, A-A321, citing al-Fadl b. Yahya, clear mint & date, first known coin of Bûshanj in any metal; unpublished and unique, VF, RRRR. Bûshanj (Pushang in Persian) was an important medieval junction town on the trade route west of Herat, abandoned in the 16th century, replaced by the more recent town of Ghourian in Afghanistan, about 35 miles west of Herat and 35 miles east of the Iranian border. The prefix "ma'din" would mean "town" or "trading town", a prefix occasionally applied to a mint city, such as "Ma'din al-Shash" in the AH180s-190s.
