ABBASID REBELLION: 'Abd Allah b. al-Jârud, 794, AR dirham (1.98g), al-'Abbasiya, AH178, A-219JD, rebelled against the 'Abbasid governor al-Fadl b. Rawh (whom al-Jarud killed) in Jumada II 178 during the caliphate of al-Rashid; al-Jarud was driven out either at the end of 178 or early in 179; he was also known as 'Abdawayh al-Anbari; legible mint & date (with the alif of the mint name al-'abbâsiya omitted), one of 3 known examples (the other two in museums), clipped, NGC graded F-VF, RRRR. NGC assigned this piece only to the Abbasid caliph al-Rashid, and described it as "clipped" without an actual grade.
