ABBASID: Zubayda bint Ja'far bint al-Mansur, 765/66-831, lead seal (5.68g), A-338, legend in four lines: baraka min / Allah li-Umm / Ja'far 'ala / yaday (...), the last word off flan; Zubayda was the wife of the caliph al-Rashid, granddaughter of the caliph al-Mansur, and the mother of the future caliph al-Amin; this appears to be the only known lead seal in her name, XF, RRRR, ex Morton & Eden Auction 103, lot 24, ex Dr. Dirk Löer Collection. Zubayda was the elder sister of al-Khayzuran, who was the mother of the caliph al-Rashid. A lead weight of al-Khayzuran was sold in the Morton & Eden Auction 95/96, lot 57, in 2018. Zubayda is named on many silver coins struck from the AH180s to the 210s, often as Umm Ja'far, occasionally with her personal name Zubayda, some of which are only moderately rare.
