ABBASID: al-Hadi, 785-786, AR dirham (2.79g), Qasr al-Salam, AH169, A-217.2, Lowick, caliph cited as al-khalifa al-hadi, with the name Ibrahim on the reverse, divided with ibr above and him below the field, VF. Although a few AH169 dirhams are known for al-Mahdi, this is only the second example of al-Hadi. The other example, sold in our Auction 13, Lot 396, bore only "bir" above and the letter "ayn" below the reverse field. This piece was sold at Leu Numismatik Web Auction 11, Lot 2381, but the mint was described incorrectly as "Madinat al-Salam", which is common, and therefore sold rather cheaply.
