ABBASID: al-Ma'mun, 810-833, AR heavy weight dirham (3.89g), Fars, AH204, A-224H, also citing 'Ali b. Musa al-Rida as on the previous lot; extremely rare mint/date combination; pierced and with an attached soldered ring, to be worn showing the reverse, VF, RRR.

This would have been proudly worn to reveal the owner's support for the Sunni/Shi'ite unification promised by the caliph al-Ma'mun. Thus the attachment and the presentation of the unifaction is of great historic importance. In addition, Fars is the rarest mint for the unifaction series (none on CoinArchives or Zeno).
