ABBASID: al-Mansur, 754-775, AR dirham (2.75g), Ifriqiya, AH143, A-213.3, Lowick, citing the official Harun and the commander-in-chief "Thamîm" (actually al-Aghlab b. Salim al-Thamimi, from the Arab tribe Banu Thamim), purely Abbasid style; unpublished, unique, and of significant historical importance, XF, RRRR. Ifriqiya struck dirhams AH140-143 in the traditional Umayyad format (143 is Lowick-270) with the Qur'an-112 on the reverse. This is the first dirham of Ifriqiya in the purely Abbasid style, and the first coin citing al-Thamimi, who is cited on the subsequent dirhams dated 144-148 only by his first two letter "tham". I have not identified the Harun cited on this piece. Cf. Morton & Eden Auction 99, lot 13, for a dirham of Ifriqiya AH142 for additional information.
