ABBASID: al-Mu'tamid, 870-892, AR dirham (2.91g), Ra's al-'Ayn, AH277, A-240.2, citing the heir of the west al-Mufawwad on the obverse, with the name muhammad below, and the unusual title dhu'l-sayfayn ("possessor of the two swords") below the reverse; about 12% flat strike and some double-striking on the obverse; unpublished and probably unique, VF, RRR. We found that the title "dhu'l-sayfayn" appears only on dirhams struck at al-Mawsil, unusual dated AH276, and this is the first from Ra's al-'Ayn, located about 150 miles west of al-Mawsil.
