ABBASID: al-Radi, 934-940, AR dirham (3.75g), Arzan, AH329, A-255.1, extremely rare mint, located a short distance north of Hasankeyf; this is the first reported Abbasid coin of this mint, which has only been heretofore reported for the Marwanids, Ilkhans, and possibly the second Safavid ruler (all extremely rare); without the heir-apparent to the caliphate, much central weakness, but the mint & date are perfectly clear, F-VF, RRR. Arzan is not to confused with Arzan al-Rum, i.e., Erzurum, which has been retaken by the Byzantines in 931 and held by them until the battle of Manzikert in 1071.
