AFGHANISTAN: 'Abd al-Rahman, 1880-1901, brass medal (8.98g), ND, 30mm, honoring 'Abd al-Rahman ("Abdul Rahman") as "Ameer of Afghanistan", citing Sir T. Salter Pyne and the Martin & Co. on the reverse, EF.

From the Heritage sale #3109, April 2012: "Five-piece lot of silver and bronze Minting trials by Martin & Co. including: (1) 1/2 Pice size, 19.1 mm trial in bronze for the new mint ca. 1890, H.H. Abdul Rahman, Ameer of Afghanistan around two crossed flags / Sir T. Salter Pyne, C.S.I. Martin & Co, XF, reeded edge (2) Rupee size, 24 mm trial in bronze for the new mint ca. 1890, H.H. Abdul Rahman, Ameer of Afghanistan around 3 flowers / Sir T. Salter Pyne, Martin & Co, XF, reeded edge (3) Rupee size, 24 mm trial in silver for the new mint ca. 1890, H.H. Abdul Rahman, Ameer of Afghanistan around 3 flowers / Sir T. Salter Pyne, Martin & Co, XF, reeded edge (4) 5 Rupee size, 39 mm trial in bronze for the new mint ca. 1890, H.H. Abdul Rahman, Ameer of Afghanistan around two crossed flags / Sir T. Salter Pyne, C.S.I. Martin & Co around G & B monogram, AU, reeded edge; and (5) 5 Rupee size, 39 mm trial in silver for the new mint ca. 1890, H.H. Abdul Rahman, Ameer of Afghanistan around two crossed flags / Martin & Co around G & B monogram, VF-XF, reeded edge. An extremely interesting, and very scarce group of trial issues" (lot 23491. However, the illustrated piece on the Heritage site is clearly this 30mm "pattern", clear from the diebreak through the name Salter).
