AFGHANISTAN: Habibullah Ghazi, rebel, 1929, AV habibi (30 rupees), AH1347 (1928), KM-899, H-48A, a superb lustrous mint-state example! PCGS graded MS65, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection. Habibullah Kalakani or Habibullah Ghazi, an ethnic Tajik, was derided by the Pashtun as "Bacha-ye Saqao", literally son of the water carrier, and was the ruler of Afghanistan from January 17 to October 13, 1929, and was also a leader of the Saqqawists. During the Afghan Civil War, he captured vast swathes of Afghanistan and ruled Kabul during what is known in Afghan historiography as the "Saqqawist period." No country recognized him as ruler of Afghanistan.
