AFRICA: SET of 20 silver medals, a complete set of 1971-1972 Franklin Mint East African Wildlife Society "Official Big Game Animals" Medals Set struck in of 24K gold plated 51mm sterling silver weighing 66g each, potraying the following animals; African Buffalo, African Elephants, Black Rhinoceroses, Cheetahs, Elands, Gazelles, Gerenuks, Gorillas, Hippopotami, Impalas, Kongoni Hartebeests, Leopards, Lions, Reticulated Giraffes, Sable Antelopes, Warthogs, Wildebeests, Zebras, Waterbucks, and Kudus, a lovely proof like set of medals (ASW 117.66 oz / 1221g), set of 20 medals, ex Charles "Chuck" Mitton Collection. Commissioned by the East African Wildlife Society, the collection portrays African big game animals threatened by extinction. To capture the animals accurately, sculptor Anthony Jones famously embarked on a 1,600-mile trek across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to sketch them firsthand in their natural habitats.
