ALBANIA: Zog I, 1928-1939, AV 100 franga ari, 1927-R, KM-11a.1, Fr-1var, fully lustrous, classical biga on reverse, NGC graded MS64, R. When Ahmet Bey Zogu (Zog I) went into exile in 1939, much of the gold coinage of Albania was taken along in trunks, so most surviving examples show considerable contact marks and other blemishes from the jostling of transporting them. Coins of this type that have few of these problems, such as this one, sell for high premiums. This type is also treasured for its design, considered one of the best that artist Giuseppe Romagnoli ever rendered.
