ALMOHAD: Abu Hafs 'Umar, 1248-1266, AR square 4 dirhams (6.18g), al-Hadra al-Mu'miniya al-Murtadiya, ND, A-493R, cf. Hohertz-A563 (2 dirhams), 5-line legend on each side; the "mint name" means "al-Murtadi's region of the believers", where al-Murtadi is the honorary name of Abu Hafs 'Umar; stylized calligraphy, choice EF, RRRR. The general type was published by Brethes but for the AR double dirham of about 3g (Brethes-1074). Brethes also published a 4 dirham piece (#1073, 6g), but with very different legends. Hohertz translated the entire legend (his type A563), but could not find the top reverse line, clear on this piece, which translates as "God, [with His] glory and greatness, is our Lord ".
