ALMOHAD: Abu'l-'Ula Idris II, 1266-1269, AV dinar (4.64g), NM, ND, A-494, royal legend in obverse margin, amir al-mu'minin al-wathiq / billah abu'l-'ula ibn / sayyid abi 'abd allah ibn / sayyid abi hafs bin al-khalifa, and citing the long deceased Abu Ya'qub Yusuf (died in 1184) on the reverse margin, a lovely lustrous mint state example! NGC graded MS63, RRR.

Abu'l-'Ula Idris II was the last caliph of the Almohad Dynasty. His brief rule, which only extended over the city of Marrakesh, came to an end when the Merinids conquered the city in 1269 and executed him.

Incorrectly attributed on the NGC holder to the much more common dinar of his cousin and predecessor, Abu Hafs 'Umar.
