IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
AMIRS OF NAKUR: temp. Jurthum b. Ahmad, 948/9-971, AR 1/2 dirham (0.72g), al-Nakur, ND, A-Q455, in the names of the late Idrisid ruler al-Qasim (937-948) and an unknown governor Hamid (or Humayd); obverse marginal legend with the mint name (seems correct); reasonable Fatimid style and with the Sunni kalima on the reverse, as on virtually all Fatimid coins prior to AH365 (975 AD); unique and the second known coin of the Amirs of Nakur, VF, RRRR. It is known that Abu'l-'Ayyash Ahmad, the son of al-Qasim, was active in Nakur in the Rif region in the early 950s, during his short reign as the successor to al-Qasim (949-954). According to recent research by the consignor, it is likely that Hamid or Humayd was part of the names and titles of Abu'l-'Ayyash Ahmad, though it could also have been the alternative Arabic name of Jurthum b. Ahmad.
