WARRING STATES: LOT of 74 items, including 13 bronze cicada/wawa money, 10 bronze hemispherical "buttons" (from 34mm to 11mm), a bronze pù shou (in the shape of the head of the mythical taotie, used to attach ring to the side of a vessel), 5 fragments of money tree (three original from around Han Dynasty, two of them about 10cm long and depict cash coins; other two modern), the fragments of 3 halberd money, 6 bamboo slips with seal script writing (possible later replicas), 3 replicas of spade money, 10 small beads, and 6 other items, plus 17 small lead items (incl. 8 spirals from present-day Thailand); retail value $500, lot of 74 pieces, ex Ilse & Rolf Braun Collection. Rolf (1937-2016) and Ilse Braun were the founder and the secretary of the European Collectors of Primitive Money (EUCOPRIMO), a well-known organization in the field of ethnographic currency. Based in Germany, the group meets twice a year and issues a yearly magazine. Rolf and Ilse also co-authored Opium-Gewichte, one of the standard references on Burmese opium weights.
