Since our last auction, we have been told that these coins were actually discovered in western Uttar Pradesh. This series has been published in Numismatic Digest 36-37 (2012-2013). 'A New Local Type of Early Punchmarked Coins' by Sharad Sharma and Badri Prasad Verma. The publication goes into the many sub-varieties in detail. Their dating is uncertain, as they may have been produced for some sort of local coinages centuries after the suggested dates here. They are the easternmost of all known punchmarked coins.
