ARAB-BYZANTINE: Standing Caliph, ca. 690s, AE fals (3.49g), Tanukh, ND, A-3531, W-P.10, bi-tanukh to right of circle-on-steps, waf to left, Fine, R, from an American collection. This mint name refers to the tribe, the Banu Tanukh, rather than a physical location. Walker and others previously misread it as Saruj, a city near Harran, but this name is consistently spelled without the extra tooth that would be required for Sanuj. Besides, Sanuj lies outside the region of Halab (Aleppo).
