ARAB-BYZANTINE: Standing Emperor Type, ca. 680s, AE fals (6.21g), Dimashq, A-3517.3, Bone-6.8, uncertain object left, Greek T?E(O) right / anchor above & downward crescent below capital M., Very Fine, RR, from an American collection. Reverse Arabic legend duriba / dimashq / ja'iz, the last word crudely engraved and almost unrecognizable. The T in the right text of the obverse is probably the T for the bird, not the letter T (the bird flew away)! This example is very different from the normal issues of Damascus, both in the style of the "emperor" and the text on the reverse. Struck on a very thick and narrow planchet, this was probably an unofficial issue from some other mint, imitating the normal Damascus type, possibly as far away as Egypt.
