ARAB-BYZANTINE: Two Standing Figures, ca. 636-640s, AE fals (5.94g), Nea[polis] (=Nablus), blundered year, A-3502N, Similar to MIB type X24 under Heraclius., Very Fine, RRR, from an American collection.

The type is derived from the follis of Heraclius & his son Heraclius Constantine, struck 630-640, his regnal years 20-30 (Sear-810). The mint name is inscribed as NEA in the reverse exergue, and the date XX plus something in the reverse left, officina letter A and a star replacing the cross above the reverse M. The date is clear in the MIB specimen, showing that the final part of the date is meaningless. The letter K between the heads of the two figures is also omitted. Foss has assigned this type to the last years of Byzantine control of Nablus (634-636), but it is much more likely that this derived type was struck afterwards, perhaps in the late 630s but much more likely at some point in the 640s, thus one of the earliest Arab pseudo-Byzantine types.
