ARAB-SASANIAN: 'Abd al-Malik b. Abi Shay(kh), fl. 692, AR drachm (3.02g), APRShT (Abarshahr), AH72, A-M29, clipped down to about the post-reform Umayyad standard, very clear name, mint & date, Fine to VF, RRRR. This appears to be the first known example of this governor, struck during the chaotic years in the early AH70s, when the collapse of the Zubayrid opposition and the petty rivalry in Khorasan and Sijistan after the brief Hephthalite invasions simultaneously troubled the eastern regions of the caliphate. The named governor is perhaps 'Abd al-Malik b. Abi Shaykh al-Qurayshi, who was active in the Kish battle in Central Asia in AH80.
