IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
ARAB-SASANIAN: Anonymous, mid 690s, AR experimental drachm (3.67g), A-34F, Zeno-109364 (erroneously filed under the mint of YZ for Yazd), standard obverse, with the usual bism Allah in ObQ2, but with the phrase muhammad rasul Allah instead of the governor's name before the portrait // standard reverse, blundered mint name (perhaps derived from WYH), and crude "date" probably derived from Pahlvai sabah ("7"), choice VF, RRRR. This is one of several experimental drachms introduced during the 690s, before the final monetary reform of 696-698 (AH 77-79). The only other example on CoinArchives was sold in the Islamic Coin Auction 19, lot 1 (April 2012), rather fancifully described. The blundered mint & date suggest that this type may have been produced somewhere in northwestern Iran or the Caucasus.
