ARAB-SASANIAN: Glass vessel stamp (7.70g), ca. 680s-720s, B-9, winged horse (al-buraq) pacing toward the right, trace of text above (probably rabbi Allah), light brownish green, much devitrification, Fine, RRR. The winged horse, al-burag, also appears on Arab-Sasanian pashiz from Istakhr (Gyselen-22, A—) and Darabjird (Gyselen-13, A-45.2). Al-Buraq was the winged horse, often illustrated with a human rather than an equine head, that carried the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem, then back to Mecca.
