IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
ARAB-SASANIAN: Mu'awiya, 661-680, AR drachm (3.55g), DA (Darabjird), AH43 (frozen), A-14, first Umayyad caliph, with his caliphal title AMYL-Y WLWYSNYKAN (in Pahlavi: "commander of the believers") after his name in the obverse field, struck circa AH52-54, some slight porosity only at the rims and a few small spots of discoloration, VF-XF. This is first Islamic coin to cite the caliph. The previous four caliphs (the "Rashidun") were only cited on coins struck hundreds of years later, by rulers confirming their Sunni beliefs.
