ARAB-SASANIAN: Salm. b. Ziyad, ca. 680-685, AR drachm (3.43g), Marw & Anbir, AH68, A-18O, Malek-860 (same obverse die), the obverse is purely Islamic, with the Islamic emphasis in Arabic, bism Allah / Allah akbar in ObQ2 & ObQ3, and the same of Salm b. Ziyad in Pahlavi in the normal location, the reverse has an 4th outer circle outside the margin, with the city name Anbir in Bactrian in RxQ5, countermarked a variant of Göbl #39 (with star instead of the first part of the Bactrian name), XF, RRRR. Malek has noted this type bearing the Hijri years 64, 65, 67, and 68. The years 64, 67, and 68, appear to have no more than about 3 or 4 known examples, and perhaps 5-6 pieces for year 65. Nearly all cite the Pahlavi mint name MLW for Marw at the right of the reverse, and Baktrian "ombero" for the Hunnic capital Anbir (near Juzjan) in the reverse margin. Malek knew of only two examples dated year 68, one published in his work as noted, the other in a Museum with tentatively read date. This piece is thus the third known example dated 68.
