ASSASSINS AT ALAMUT (BATINID): Muhammad III, 1221-1254, AV fractional dinar (1.54g), Kursi al-Daylam, AH(6)51, A-1920, legends al-sultan al-a'zam 'alâ al-dunya wa'l-din // abu'l-muzaffar muhammad bin al-hasan, with the date in words in the reverse margin, the mint in the obverse margin; small scratch on reverse, some weakness, but the central legends and both the mint & date are fully legible, VF. There is only one example of this subtype filed on CoinArchives, but without the mint name, sold in our Auction 44, lot 636. The Batinid center was at a place called Alamut, known as Kursi al-Daylam on the coins ("throne of Daylam"), high in the Alborz mountains north of Qazwin.
