AUSTRIA: AE plaque (98.36g), 50x72mm bronze plaque by Karl Perl, "Der Liebe Augustin" theme, DER LUSTIGE AUGUSTIN below piper dancing left // engraved SCHITAG SALZBURG (Salzburg Ski Day) 1987, although the plaque itself was created in 1914. Marx Augustin (also Markus Augustin, "Der Liebe Augustin") was a fictional Austrian minstrel, bagpiper, and improvisatory poet most famous for the song, "O du lieber Augustin" attributed to him. Karl Perl (1876-1965) Austrian sculptor and engraver, born in Liezen, Austria. He studied with Hellmer, Zumbusch and Kundmann and is remembered for his busts, bas reliefs and medallions. He worked and died in Vienna.
