AUSTRIA: Franz Joseph I, 1848-1916, AE medal, 1898, Hauser-941, Loehr-310, Wurzbach-2564, 60mm bronze medal by Anton Scharff for the Golden Jubilee (Kaiserjubiläum) of Franz Joseph; Allegorical figure of Austria with laurel wreath and muse Clio with dedication plaque, in front of a bust of Emperor // radiant imperial crown over a bird's-eye view of Vienna, DAS DANKBARE WIEN "Grateful Vienna" in exergue, a superb quality example! PCGS graded MS65. The Golden Jubilee was held on 2 December 1898 in Vienna. From the New York Times of 3 December 1898, "The fiftieth anniversary of Francis Joseph's accession to the throne was observed throughout the empire. Vienna is gayly decorated - Address to the Army - The Aged Monarch Extolled by the Press as Guardian of European Peace."
