AUSTRIA: zinc medal, Karl Troop Cross (Karl-Truppenkreuz), with original ribbon, XF, ex Joseph E. Lang Collection. The Karl Troop Cross is an Austro-Hungarian military campaign decoration from World War I. The cross was awarded to all members of the Austro-Hungarian armed forces, regardless of rank, who had served at least 12 weeks on the front lines and participated in at least one battle. The medal is a cross pattée on a laurel wreath. Obverse: Features a granulated surface with the Latin inscription: "GRATI PRINCEPS ET PATRIA, CAROLVS IMP. ET REX" (A grateful prince and country, Karl, Emperor and King). Reverse: Displays the Austrian Imperial and Hungarian Royal crowns side-by-side above the letter "C" (for Carolus). The horizontal arms bear the inscription "VITAM ET SANGVINEM" (With life and blood), and the lower arm shows the date "MDCCCCXVI" (1916).
