AYODHYA: AR double karshapana (4.83g), ca. 600 BC, Ra-—, 6-point symbol, plus secondary symbol of bull right, Fine. This is possibly the earliest coinage of India, struck by the Iskhvakus of Ayodhya. Less than a dozen specimens are known, and they have recently been published by Mitchiner and Rajgor. Supposedly the prototypes of Narhan-Chirand-Muzaffarpur coinage, these are the Vimshatikas and not ½ shekels as called by Mitchiner.
