AYYUBID OF YEMEN: al-Kamil Muhammad I, 2nd reign in Yemen, 1233-1236, AR dirham (1.95g), Makka (Mecca), AH632, A-1099, very crude calligraphy, EF, RRR. The attribution to Mecca is now accepted, now that several specimens are recorded on Zeno (2 different reverse dies, one obverse die). All Ayyubid of Yemen coins struck AH627-634 were actually issued by the first Rasulid ruler, al-Mansur 'Umar I, who received the patent from the Abbasid caliph in Baghdad to issue coins in his own name in AH634, two years after this coin. It is possible that these were struck at Mecca in connection with the Rasulid request for the patent, or were struck in Yemen to present to the representative of the caliph at Mecca.
