IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
BADEN: AE medal, 1926, Zeitz-655/601, 40mm bronze unsigned medal for the Centennial of the Birth of Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden; FRIEDRICH I. GROSHERZOG V. BADEN / GEB. D. 9 SEPT. 2826 / GEST. D. 28 SEPT. 1907 around royal portrait in military uniform // ZUR ERINNERUNG AN SEINE SEGENSREICHE GEBURT VOR 100 JAHREN / 9 SEPTEMBER 1926 around laurel wreath with ducal crown at center, a wonderful specimen quality example! PCGS graded Specimen 64. Frederick I had a pivotal role in the history of Zionism. In 1896 he met Theodor Herzl (the founder of political Zionism) via their mutual acquaintance the reverend William Hechler, and helped Herzl in obtaining an audience with his nephew Wilhelm II, German Emperor. After some persuasion on the part of the grand duke, the emperor accepted the appeal for an audience. It took place in Palestine on 2 November 1898, during the emperor's visit to inaugurate the Church of the Redeemer, Jerusalem.
