BADEN: Friedrich I, 1856-1907, AE kreuzer, 1871, KM-255, the city of Karlsruhe commemorating the victory over France, a lovely lustrous chocolate brown mint state example! PCGS graded MS63 BN, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. In 1871, when Baden joined the German Empire, it began phasing out the Kreuzer as part of a national shift to the Mark and Pfennig. This marked the end of Baden’s local currency system and the beginning of a unified imperial monetary standard.
