BAHRI MAMLUK: Muhammad I, 3rd reign, 1310-1341, AR 2 dirhams (2.06g), NM, AH74(0), A-923.4, Zeno-187357 (this piece), Butak-146, obverse text muhammad / al-sultan al-malik / al-nasir nasir al-dunya / wa'l-din khalad Allah mulkahu, second known specimen, VF, RRR. The overall appearance suggests that this coin was struck somewhere in the Eretnid territory, reflecting the uncertainty during the chaotic years following the death of Abu Sa'id in 736. Eretna's own coinage, always anonymous, commenced 2 years after this issue, in 742. Butak misread "arba'in" ("40") as Bi Kudüs, which he regarded as a mint name. This type is clearly without mint name.
