BARBADOS: AE halfpenny token, 1792, KM-Tn9, negro head left, wearing plumed crown and earring // George III as Neptune seated in a chariot pulled by sea horses, date in exergue, premium quality example with much red luster, NGC graded PF65 RB. In 1792, Sir Phillip Gibbs, a local plantation owner, commissioned copper pennies and halfpennies. The obverse of this example shows a die break seen on all restrikes. In 1805 the dies were acquired by Matthew Young, a London dealer in coins and medals. He restruck a very limited number of these with a collar sometime before 1840 on thick and thin planchets, according to Remick.
