BAVARIA: Maximilian II, 1848-1864, BI kreuzer, 1864, KM-858, a wonderful lustrous mint state example! PCGS graded MS64, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. In 1864, King Maximilian II died and was succeeded by his 18-year-old son, Ludwig II, beginning a reign that would become legendary for its cultural impact. Politically, Bavaria remained conservative and neutral, even as Prussia and Austria began clashing over Schleswig-Holstein, setting the stage for future conflicts and realignments in Germany.
