BAVARIA: silvered schraubtaler, 1916, 53mm, this "box thaler" is also known as the "Bayerntaler", Ludwig III half-length portrait to the left // two lions hold the crowned Bavarian State arms, in original case of issue, Unc. This "box thaler" is a hollow coin that opens up to reveal 28 colored representations of the events of the First World War depicting German leadership and famous events (thus far) in the war. Everything from Verdun to a Big Bertha shelling Belgian forts.
