BEKS OF SHAHRISABZ: Khoja Qul, 1840-1846, AE pul (fulus) (3.33g), AH12xx, A-S3027.2, NS-S05, known dated AH1256 & 1257; about 50% flat, extremely rare type, Fine, RRR, ex Dr. Wolfgang Schuster Collection. Shahrisabz ("Green Town"), formerly Kesh, was a central town in the Kesh region south of Samarkand. It was an autonomous domain ruled by local beks holding out against the Janid khans and later the Manghit emirs of Bukhara, who always regarded it as their own property. Its autonomy had been interrupted by the Manghits in 1785 and 1856, but its independence was restored both times, the latter time in 1861. Shahrisabz was occupied by Russian troops in 1868 and finally incorporated into the Emirate of Bukhara.
