BELGIUM: Baudouin, 1951-1993, AV medal (16.76g), 36mm, gold .900 fine medal for "Expo 58", the Brussels World's Fair, EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE / WERELDTENTOONSTELLING / BRUXELLES / BRUSSEL around world map and expo logo // BRUXELLES / MANNEKEN PIS around statue of the same name, in original folder of issue, Brilliant Unc, S. The Brussels World's Fair was the first major World Expo registered under the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) after World War II. The "Manneken Pis", Dutch for "Little Pissing Man", is a bronze fountain sculpture in the center of Brussels depicting a naked little boy urinating into the fountain's basin. It was designed by Jérôme Duquesnoy the Elder and put in place in 1618 or 1619. Manneken Pis is the best-known symbol of the city of Brussels. It also embodies their sense of humor and their independence of mind.
