BENGAL: Humayun, in Bengal, 1538-1539, AR tanka (10.39g), NM, ND, G-B958, lovely strike, unusually fine calligraphy, 4 banker's marks and 1 testcut, choice Very Fine, RRR, ex. John Deyell collection. Goron assigns this by style to the Bengali mint of Fathabad or nearby. The additional Arabic text on the reverse, wa Allâh yarzaq man tasha' bi-ghayr hisab, "And Allâh gives to whom He wills, without any limit" (Qur'an 2:212), a reference to the benefits given to those who believe and follow in the correct path of Islam. This text is rarely fully legible or carefully engraved on the Bengali tankas of Humayun.
