BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR double rupee (22.63g), "Murshidabad", AH1198 year 26, Stv-3.1. KM-Pn9. Prid-346, in the name of Shah Alam II, with the edge inscription * UNITED * EAST * INDIA* COMPANY * 1784, struck at the Pulta mint, mount removed, VF to EF, RRRR, ex Paul Stevens Collection. This is the largest denomination of the silver patterns produced at the Pulta mint under the authority of John Prinsep, using advanced machinery that would later become available at Calcutta. It is the only double rupee pattern produced for the Bengal Presidency, and none were ever struck for circulation there. The reverse of this example shows some die damage, identical to the specimen illustrated by Pridmore.
