BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR nazarana rupee (11.15g), Shahjahanabad, AH1219 year 47, Stv-8.29, KM-714, in the name of Shah Alam II, with 5-point blossom to right of the umbrella in obverse center, type A/1 (counter-clockwise outer floral design on both sides), special broad flan with full outer borders, choice VF to EF, RRR, ex Paul Stevens Collection, ex K.W. Wiggins Collection. Although technically, Delhi, called Shahjahanabad on the coins, was the nominal capital of the shrunken Mughal Empire, by then effectively under British suzerainty, as persuasively argued by Paul Stevens and Sanjay Garg, based on government documents preserved in both London and Delhi.
