BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR nazarana rupee (11.22g), Shahjahanabad, AH1227 year 6, Stv-8.46, KM-779.1, in the name of Muhammad Akbar II, broad flan, VF to EF, S, ex Paul Stevens Collection. Although technically, Delhi, called Shahjahanabad on the coins, was the nominal capital of the shrunken Mughal Empire, by then effectively under British suzerainty, as persuasively argued by Paul Stevens and Sanjay Garg, based on government documents preserved in both London and Delhi.
