BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR rupee (11.47g), Azimabad (Patna), year 7, Stv-5.16, KM-19, Prid-104, in the name of Shah Alam II, attractive VF, ex Paul Stevens Collection, ex K.W. Wiggins Collection. Regnal year 7 of Shah Alam II commenced on or about 8 Rabi' II 1179, which was about 6 weeks after Patna and the provinces of Bihar, Bengal, and Orissa were effectively transfered to the East India Company, thus brought under British suzerainty. This included the mints of Azimabad (Patna), Jahangirnagar (Dhaka), and Murshidabad. There is no difference in design or mint symbols on the Azimabad coins between the Mughal & EIC issues.
