BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR rupee (11.48g), Azimabad (Patna), AH (11)79 year 6, Stv-5.14, KM-19, Prid—, broad flan, top of "79" sufficiently clear to confirm the year, 2 small test cuts at the rim, lovely VF, ex Paul Stevens Collection, ex K.W. Wiggins Collection. In AH1179, Azimabad was still Mughal for the first 7½ weeks, then British from 25 Safar onwards, with the regnal year 6 ending six weeks later, on 7 Rabi' II. This issue could theoretically be either Mughal or British, but the broad flan would suggest that it is British, even if struck from dies engraved during the Mughal period.
