BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR rupee (11.63g), "Murshidabad", AH1202 year 19, KM-106, Stv-4.9. Prid-153, struck at Calcutta, oblique milling right, no dots within the obverse rosettes, wide borders, struck only in 1792, iridescent toning, NGC graded MS64, RR, ex Paul Stevens Collection. Pridmore attributed this type with its wide rims to trials that took place in 1790. Stevens, however, favors the year 1792 when a trial of laminating and cutting machinery took place at the Calcutta mint. It is reported that only 1000 pieces were struck, then replaced by the narrow border type.
