IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR rupee, "Murshidabad", AH1202 year 19 (frozen), Stv-4.9, Prid-153. KM-106, struck at Calcutta, oblique milling right, no dots within the obverse rosettes, wide borders, struck only in 1792, one of the world's earliest machine-struck coins, NGC graded MS62, RRR. Pridmore attributed this type with its wide rims to trials that took place in 1790. Stevens, however, favors the year 1792 when a trial of the new laminating and cutting machinery took place at the Calcutta mint. It is reported that only 1000 pieces were struck (not necessarily correct amount), then replaced by the narrow border type.
