BENGAL PRESIDENCY: pewter rupee die-trial (9.60g), "Murshidabad", year 19, Stv-9.7. KM-—. Prid-—, Calcutta mint, die-trial for the standard rupee struck 1831-1835, without the denticles later added to the design, and without the crescent at the upper left corner of the reverse (as found on nearly all of the regular issues of this series), VF to EF, RRRR, ex Paul Stevens Collection, ex F. Pridmore Collection. The coin design for the 1831-1835 series was approved on 13 July 1830, with the first coins released into circulation in January 1831. It is likely that this piece was struck in 1830, as indicated on Pridmore's ticket, perhaps before July as part of the approval process for the new mint at Calcutta. The metal is pewter, not lead as indicated on Pridmore's ticket.
