BOLIVIA: Carlos II, 1665-1700, AR 8 reales (20.60g), DM (1679-84)-P, KM-26, assayer V, cob issue, two assayers, two partial mintmarks, corroded from saltwater immersion, nearly full cross, from the La Consolación shipwreck, in custom display case, with COA and quite good pamphlet titled Pirate Treasure Coins by King and Craig, VF, ex La Consolación shipwreck. La Consolación was sunk in 1681 off the coast of Santa Clara Island, Ecuador. It was met by the pirate Bartholomew Sharpe when sailing alone. Rather than surrendering to the pirates, the captain ordered his men to burn the ship. Modern salvage began in 1997.
